First Day of School

Hello there!  Is it really the end of summer?  The nights are cooler, the afternoon sun is casting longer shadows and we just finished our first week of school!  Sure signs that fall is coming fast.  I haven’t been posting much in the last year but I have been trying to fit in some crafting time.  This morning I finished a double scrapbook layout of my kids’ first day of school.  It feels good to get it down on paper for future enjoyment.  Here is page 1….

page 1The Close To My Heart Chalk It Up paper pack and matching Compliments chipboard embellishments made throwing these pages together a snap.  Here is page 2…

Page 2The sketch layout is from an old Close To My Heart Idea Book.

We actually went apple picking today – another sure sign of fall – so hopefully I’ll be back with some kind of project with pictures from the orchard.  Have a lovely day and thanks for looking!

Hello everyone!  It’s been a while since I last posted but I have been busy in my craft room.  I’ve been working on a couple of parties for friends and thought I’d show you what I’ve been up to.  I also have two Studio J layouts for the Out of a Hat Challenge blog this week, so if you’re looking for that scroll down.

This first project is a birthday invitation to a pool party for my friend’s daughter’s 10th birthday.

Pool Party Invite

I thought tropical would be bright and fun for a pool party, so I used some of my CTMH stamps and Dotty For You paper remnants for that tropical feel.  The waves were cut out with my Cricut, and what would a backyard pool party be without a lot of sunshine and a pair of flipflops?  Let’s hope she has a beautiful, hot sunny day for her birthday party.

My next project is for a baby shower I am attending this weekend.  I volunteered to make the favours and a diaper cake.  Here is the baby shoe favour which was cut out with my Cricut and the Artiste Cricut cartridge.

Baby Shoe FavourIsn’t that adorable?  I love the plaid paper.  It’s from the My Time Made Easy Bringing Home Baby Girl digital paper pack.  Here is the diaper cake…Diaper Cake

I’ve never made one of these before but found it really easy and fun.  The mom-to-be is expecting a girl as you can tell.  Let’s hope the ultrasound was right, lol!

And since we’re on the subject of babies, I thought I’d share a couple of CTMH Studio J layouts I made of my kids to document the first few years of their lives.  I will enter these into the Out of a Hat Challenge this week for the photograph challenge.  Here is my son from newborn to age 5.

These Close To My Heart Studio J layouts are really great if you don’t have the time to scrapbook your photos in the traditional way.  All you do is upload your photos to the Studio J site and pick your digital papers/layout.  Super fast and easy.

Well that was a lot of stuff for one post but I hope you enjoyed browsing through everything.  I’ll be back in a day or two to bring you the My Time Made Easy June releases so come on back.  Until then have a great day and happy crafting!

Treat Bag Mini Album

Hello crafty friends!  Happy Family Day to all my Ontario followers.  I hope you’re enjoying your long weekend.  Today I would like to share a mini album I made last week for a craft party I ran Friday night.  Some of you will already know what this looks like because you made one, but I love the way it turned out so I thought I’d post it for those who haven’t see it.  I will be entering this into the Out of a Hat challenge (birds and butterflies) and the Heart2Heart challenge (tags – you’ll see why in a minute!!).Treat Bag Mini AlbumI found a package of canvas covered chipboard mini album pages at my local craft store, and used one of them for the cover of the album.  I stamped a few swirly shapes and a postmark onto the canvas with Champagne and Cocoa inks and then started layering different elements on top to get a shabby chic look.Mini AlbumAfter inking the edges of a doily with Cocoa ink, I stamped a really pretty floral image in the middle with Sorbet ink.  This gorgeous stamp is from the CTMH Jardin stamp set.  The ornate picture frame is also from the same set and is used to frame out the little butterfly and the word Love, which I cut out with the Cricut.Mini AlbumI layered a few different types ribbons across the front and added another glittery swirl, flower and button combo in the top left corner.  As you can see, the spine of the album is a strip of patterned paper from the CTMH Buzz and Bumble paper pack.  I used a piece of orange washi tape down the side to help hold it in place and to add colour.Treat Bag PagesThe pages of the mini album are little paper treat bags, which are available through Close To My Heart.  These hold tags, which can be pulled out and decorated with photos or journaling.  Here you can see I adorned each tag with a piece of ribbon, but I haven’t gotten around to putting anything else on them yet.  I hope that’s ok for the girls over at H2H!

That’s it for today.  Hope you had fun looking.  Have a great day and happy crafting!

Christmas Mini Album

Happy Monday!  The weeks are flying by and I can hardly keep track of what holiday is happening.  While I’ve been in Christmas mode, my kids have been counting down the hours until Halloween.  We are hoping for a dry trick or treat evening, but it looks like the weather gods are trying to throw a hurricane our way.  Luckily for us Eastern Ontarians, we will probably just get some wind and rain, but we’ll be praying for those poor folks on the Eastern seaboard of the United States and Canada for a safe passage through the storm.

Today I wanted to share with you a Christmas mini album I made for a Close To My Heart party I hosted about a week ago.  I had the ladies do this project as a make and take and they were very pleased with the results.  I will be entering it into the Out of a Hat Challenge this week as they are asking for a stocking stuffer idea.  I think a mini album would be a great stocking stuffer for a relative or close friend of the family. The original idea for this came from Nicole Heady’s blog {Capture the Moment}.  There are tonnes of fabulous paper crafting projects there, so I urge you to go take a peek.  You can see this project by clicking here.

I started with 2 pieces of chipboard that measured 6×6.  I then cut one 6×12 strip of Olive green card stock and one 6×12 strip of Cranberry red card stock.  I glued the chipboard pieces to the card stock so that the red was on one side and the green on the other.  I also left about 1 inch of the chipboard showing on each end, which I covered by the very pretty Pear & Partridge Christmas paper.  I wrapped Cranberry Grossgrain ribbon around each side to hide the paper seams. On the inside of the album, I added two trifold panels, which hold my photos.  As you can see, I adorned the outside of each panel with some lovely vintage looking stamps from the Christmas Delights stamp set.  I coloured the images with Copics and popped them up with dimensional foam.  The trifold panels are held closed with Cranberry Baker’s Twine.

Here is a peek of what’s inside each panel… I only put 2 photos in each side but there is room to glue in more folds if you want your album to hold more pictures.  To keep this little album closed I added a small velcro circle to the edge of each side.

I hope you enjoyed this project.  Try one for yourself – you won’t be disappointed with the results.  Have a lovely day everyone and I’ll be back soon with some Halloween pictures of a really cool event we took the kids to on the weekend.  Happy crafting!

1st Day of School

Happy Monday everyone!  I know spring is here and that means the end of the school year is just around the corner but I thought I’d share a scrapbook page I made for my son’s first day of grade one.  It’s also the September page of the calendar I’m making for my husband (nope, it’s not finished yet and it’s April!).

My son’s favorite colour is blue so of course I started with blue card stock as the backdrop.  The cute apple paper was from a Me & My Big Ideas paper book.  I love the primary colours.  Such a great look for a school page.

I used a few different stamp sets for this page but the one I used most was the CTMH School Rocks set.  The stars were cut out with the Cricut and I stamped some of them with patterns for interest.  I also popped most of them up with foam dimensionals.  The little school house is a combination of paper piecing and colouring and the school bus was coloured with Copic markers.  The kids at the top of the page, the scallop border and the Grade One were stamped with Outdoor Denim ink.

It’s nice to be able to save the important moments in life in such a fun way.  Before I know it I’ll be scrapbooking his first day of university!  Have a great day and happy crafting!

Happy Moments Scrapbook Page

Hello happy crafters!  The sun is shining, the snow is melting and the clocks have gone ahead an hour – all sure signs of spring!  And to match that happy thought today’s project has lots of flowers on it.

I have been trying to finish a scrapbook calendar for my husband to take to work and thought I’d share the latest page.  I am trying to get the whole thing done before 2012 ends! LOL!  I only have three more pages to go so hopefully it will be complete before the end of March.  It has been quite an undertaking since I actually hand stamped all the numbers plus added in little extras for birthday and holiday reminders.  Anyway, without further adieu here is the finished 12×12 page (minus the calendar section)…

I used a gorgeous layout sketch I found on Pinterest for this page.  Thank goodness for you super talented people who come up with these layouts to help people like me out!  It really speeds up the process and the results are fantastic.  The materials I used were the Close To My Heart (CTMH) Florentine paper pack (pg 52 of the Spring/Summer 2012 Idea Book) and two stamp sets – Happy Moments and Love Life.

The first thing I did was cut out my basic shapes for the page.  This included a piece of 4×12 CS in Twilight, a 5×8 piece of floral patterned paper, a 4.5 inch circle frame in Garden Green CS, a 3.5 inch scalloped circle frame in blue patterned paper, a 3 inch circle frame in Twilight CS and a 4.5 inch circle in orange patterned paper.  The circles were cut out using the CTMH Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge.

I printed out and cropped my photos to fit in the circle frames and then adhered the shapes onto my 12×12 piece of Vanilla Cream CS.  Once these were adhered I began my stamping.  For all the swirls and curlycues I used Twilight ink.

I stamped some tiny flowers and hearts directly onto the paper around the curlycues using Sorbet (orange) ink.  This helps tie in the stamped images with the patterned background paper.

The rest of the stamping was done on Colonial White CS and cut out.  I used three colours of ink for the flowers – Garden Green, Sorbet and Twilight.  I stamped them in one colour and then rolled the edges in another colour to get that multicoloured look.  Here is a look at of one of the flowers before it was assembled…

A silver brad was used to hold the clear flower button and pieces of flower together.  Here is the after…

Besides using stamped flowers I also used a couple of orange paper flowers that I had laying around my craft room.  All the flowers were assembled before they were glued onto the page.  That gave me the opportunity to play with the placement a bit and come up with something I liked.

The last thing I did was cut out and stamp the sentiment.  Once again the flower was cut out using the Cricut.  One layer in green and the other in Colonial White.  The edges of the white were inked with Sorbet.  I also used the multicoloured stamp technique so I would have all three theme colours on the sentiment.

To finish it off I stamped the word Laugh onto the bottom right just beneath the large photo circle and added the paper word border to the top and bottom of the flowered patterned paper.

Hope you enjoyed today’s project and are inspired to try the multicoloured stamping technique on something of your own.

Happy crafting!
