Jewel In The Crown

Standard

Hi gang!  A quick post to share my Out of a Hat Creations challenge card.  The theme this week is ‘jewel in the crown’.  My take on this was inspired by the Make It Monday video over on the {capture the moment} blog.  If you want to see some great technique videos they have a new one every Monday – fabulous!Jewel in the CrownA bunch of different sized flags were cut using paper from the Gina K Designs Parisian Garden collection.  Once I had them glued down, I popped up a border on top and embellished it with the silver embossed crown and a banner that says Magnifique.  I also added splotches of silver spritz along with a few purple gems in the bottom corner.  C’est tout, as they say en francais.  Have a great day everyone!

Matchbox Makeover and CAS Cards

Standard

Hello out there!  It’s almost March and it looks like we are getting some wet, snowy weather to bring it in.  But that’s ok – in like a lion, out like a lamb as the saying goes!  Today I have a couple of things to share.  The first one is my matchbox makeover for the Out of a Hat Challenge this week.Under the SeaI don’t own any matchboxes and I haven’t even seen any around for years.  I’m sure they’re out there but I haven’t had reason to look.  None-the-less, boxes are not that hard to make so I made my own matchbox.  I was inspired by Sandra’s little mouse house and came up with this ‘under the sea’ theme.  I also thought it would be fun to have a window in the box, as if you were looking into an aquarium.Mermaid & FriendsThe paper is from a K&Company paper stack I bought on sale last summer.  Perfect for my aquarium.  There is no stamping on this project – just a lot of finicky cutting!

My next project consists of a couple of CAS cards I made for the Heart2Heart Challenge Blog.  I have always loved CAS cards.  They say so much in the simplest way.  The first card uses the Pinwheel stamp set which will be available through Close To My Heart in May. PinwheelNot much to say here other than the ink colours are Twilight, Outdoor Denim, Pear, Blush and black.

My second card uses the CTMH March stamp of the month:  Floral Happiness.  I used pigment inks on this card so that the flowers would be a bit more vibrant against the kraft background.Happiness is...That’s it from me.  I’ll be back tomorrow with details to a My Time Made Easy giveaway so come on back for your chance to win.  Have a lovely day and happy crafting!

Red & White

Standard

Hi friends!  I made two cards today, one for the Out of a Hat challenge, which features locks and keys, and the other for the Heart2Heart challenge, which is asking for projects with a gratitude theme.  AND it just so happens that while I was preparing my photos for this post, I found out the Addicted To Stamps and More! blog is hosting a red and white theme.  So needless to say, since both my cards feature red and white, I will be entering them into that challenge as well.  Here is my first card, featuring a lock and key… A friend and I were shopping at IKEA last week and we came across gift wrapping tape coloured red and white.  Looks just like Washi tape but much, much cheaper.  I paid $1.99 for three rolls!  SCORE!  Naturally, I wanted to try it out on a card, so this was the inspiration for the colour scheme.I took 3 strips of the red tape with white polka dots and taped it onto a piece of white card stock.  I then cut out a heart shape with my Cricut, which I turned into a lock.  I also cut out the black key with the Cricut and adhered it underneath the  heart.  The sentiment is from the CTMH Chairs to You stamp set (retired), which was stamped onto a white chipboard cutout.  The background was run through the Cuttlebug with the Swiss Dots embossing folder.  And here is the inside…My second card is a gratitude card and also features the IKEA tape.  Loving this tape!!!Again, a couple of strips of each of the patterned tapes were taped onto white card stock, after which I cut out the flower shapes.  The CTMH Art Philosphy cartridge was used for all my die cuts.  This sentiment is from the CTMH Friendship Bouquet stamp set (retired) and adhered with a piece of CTMH Cranberry Grosgrain Ribbon. The middle of each flower sports a blingy button or gem – all compliments of CTMH!  The Swiss Dots background was also used again on this card.  It’s such a classic!

And the inside…So please take a moment and check out these three fabulous blogs for some terrific inspiration and ideas (Out of a Hat Creations, Heart2Heart, Addicted to Stamps and More!).  If nothing else, it gives you a few moments to drink another coffee and forget about your other duties, lol!

Hope you’re having a wonderful week.  Happy crafting!
